IMG_1607 UpStart Tapped to Power Los Angeles Federation Teen Accelerator

“If I had had the tools the Accelerator provides before this past summer,
it would have helped in shaping our programs more towards our customers needs.”

– Rebecca Grossberg, Freedom Schools
Los Angeles Teen Program Accelerator participant

At UpStart, we believe that asking “How might we _______?” can be the beginning of the most innovative Jewish ideas.
The Los Angeles Jewish Teen Initiative, launched by the Los Angeles Jewish Federation and co-funded by the Jim Joseph Foundation, is the result of just one of those “how might we’s:” How might we engage thousands more teens in meaningful Jewish experiences?
The Federation hired UpStart to power the Los Angeles Jewish Teen Program Accelerator, a two-year series of workshops, retreats, and coaching sessions to guide local organizations in launching new teen programs that:

  • Bring new and unique value to Jewish teens
  • Maintain strategic focus and alignment with organizational mission
  • Operate on a business model that maximizes recruitment of new customers

UpStart will teach the ten Accelerator organizations how to use proven theories and practices from the for-profit innovation sector, including design thinking and the Business Model Canvas to increase their impact and customer base.

Los Angeles Teen Initiative Program Accelerator participating organizations include:
Stephen S. Wise Freedom School, Shalom Institute’s Tiyul and Sherut L’Olam Programs, Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles Community Internship Program, JQ International, Kibbutz Bob Waldorf on the Max Straus Campus, Moving Traditions, URJ NFTY, WJCC Maccabi Games.

Our purpose is to enable entrepreneurs to bring bold Jewish ideas to light. We help them reach Up to people in new ways that are meaningful, more inclusive, and create a brighter future for our Jewish community and the world we share.
