We are seeking a Talent Development & Engagement Manager to implement and develop initiatives that drive employee development, engagement, and belonging, in alignment with UpStart’s overall organizational strategy. The Talent Development & Engagement Manager will coordinate activities across the employee life cycle, from recruitment and hiring to onboarding and offboarding. This person will support talent growth and engagement while ensuring that Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) is embedded into all related structures, processes, and initiatives.

The Talent Development & Engagement Manager will be an integral part of the People team and report to the Chief of Staff, with a close relationship to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer and Senior Director, DEIJ. We are open to applicants from all locations throughout the US and currently have hubs in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, and New York City.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Talent Recruitment & Development

  • Establish recruitment systems and implement the administrative aspects of hiring, including posting strategically, first round interviews, offer letters, etc.
  • Support the growth and development of team members through the design and implementation of performance management and growth planning processes.
  • Coordinate and develop professional development (PD) programs in alignment with a clear talent development philosophy, including PD funds, team learning, manager training, mentorship programs, etc.
  • Coordinate and update employee orientation and onboarding, as well as departures.
  • Serve as an ongoing resource and support to the team at every step of the employee journey.
  • Coordinate UpStart’s internship programs.

Employee Engagement & Belonging

  • Project manage, coordinate logistics, and support the design of team gatherings, including biweekly team meetings and regular full team gatherings.
  • Implement ongoing data collection and analysis to inform recommendations of policies, processes, and initiatives that would foster greater recruitment and retention of high-performing employees.
  • Design and implement new initiatives to drive employee engagement and belonging.
  • Develop and manage initiatives to recognize team members, including both accomplishments and milestones.
  • Develop and maintain an annual, cross-functional UpStart calendar ensuring transparency and alignment across the organization.
  • Manage tech platforms that support team culture and employee development.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 4-6 years of experience working in talent development, human resources, and/or leadership development.
  • Strong active listening and relationship-building skills with the ability to demonstrate both empathy and discretion.
  • Demonstrated commitment to integrating a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) lens into your work.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated experience driving change and supporting others through change.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience using data to inform decision-making.
  • Experience working in a distributed, remote environment (preferred)

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range for this position is from $65,000-$80,000 depending on experience. In addition to salary, UpStart offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, matching 401K, FSA, life and disability insurance, and an annual professional development stipend. We value the time you spend outside the office as much as we value the time you spend with us, and so, our flexible scheduling and vacation policies enable you to hold both.

Our internal process from submission to offer will look as follows:

  • A first interview will be scheduled with the Hiring Manager.
  • Candidates who advance to a second round will complete an experiential assignment in advance of interviewing with the CFOO and an additional team member (which is the third round).
  • Finalists will participate in a third-round interview with the Hiring Manager. References will be requested of all finalists in advance of this final meeting.
